I use dimensional stable materials as a base
for building up textured layers of
acrylic mediums, molding paste, paper, collage, paint, etc. The
backing needs to sturdy enough to support the layers of wet materials
and also soft enough to move smoothly through an inkjet printer.
Heavy weight spun bonded polyester is one of the most
useful materials I use. After I complete
my substrate I coat it with 1 - 3 coats of inkjet precoating from inkAID.

The product description: Reemay spunbonded polyester
Acid-free, random spunbonded polyester is available in three thicknesses.
The random weave of these 100% polyester non-woven fabrics prevents
pulling or stretching in any direction. Reemay is an extremely
strong support material for preservation/conservation efforts
including immersion treatment, interleaving, lining and backing.
Retains its physical properties when wet and is dimensionally
stable during humidity changes.
Smaller quantities and lighter weights are available in fabric
stores, textile suppliers fabric stores call it heavy weight interfacing
get sew in type not iron on type.
Alternative material Tyvek® which is a home construction
material used as a moisture barrier. Tyvek® is a brand
name rolls can be found in stores like Home Depot. Small
sized quantities of it can be found in recycle mailing envelops.
Tyvek®is manufactured by DuPont™ and is availalable in hundreds
